from it that might have application for your practice?
I learned
that as a nurse with such a flexible position, we could become leaders in
establishing new technologies for the emerging healthcare atmosphere. The environment is changing and the
importance of planning and preparing can help nurses assume a more direct role
in managing healthcare. This is the
thought process behind the article and the future of the nursing
profession. The nursing role is changing
and it is taking a more collaborative role.

ReplyDeleteI touched on this issue in the upcoming assignment dealing with the nurse informaticist in 2030. Because the impact of these changes directly affect how nurses use health information technology (HIS) to contribute to consumer health, I believe the nursing profession by 2030 will align itself to enhance the use of HIS through the skills of the NI. In the next 15 years the manner in which nurses are prepared for the current healthcare challenges will evolve to include competencies that were formally associated with the informatics nurses and will transition downward to nurses in general practice. The NI in 2030 will be the expert that has the skills from both the clinical and technological arenas to solve long term IT innovation issues, which includes supporting patients as well as clinicians.
It is interesting Adam that technology is advancing so rapidly and requires more nursing personnel to be available to grow with this field. I have been a nurse for thirty years and several years ago I realized this is where I should focus my education. We need to evolve as a profession or we can perish. Acute care nursing is facing challenges because the tide is to move most services to outpatient care and chronic illness management. Nursing informatics is on the rise with the increase in technology so we need to ride the wave. Nursing informatics and the science behind it continuously expands and amplifies building on a nurses existing knowledge and can lead to momentous ramifications for nursing practice (Bickford, 2008). A proper understanding of the power behind information and nursing informatics will increase and enhance the current program and lead to advancement among fellow colleagues to meet nurses’ needs in the clinical setting.
